Sanella Summit
Perched within the rugged terrain of Blue Mountains, Ontario, the Sanella Summit Residence is a study in contrast—a monolithic concrete base firmly rooted in the sloped site, supporting a floating rectilinear volume of expansive glass and stucco. Designed for seamless integration with nature, the home capitalizes on south-facing panoramic views of Georgian Bay, while its proximity to Georgian Peaks reinforces a dialogue between architecture and landscape.
The lower concrete mass carves into the hillside, establishing a strong connection to the earth, while the upper volume, defined by deep overhangs and floor-to-ceiling glazing, appears weightless—dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. The material palette—textured stucco, raw concrete, and warm wood—is curated for seasonal adaptability, allowing the residence to blend with Ontario’s winter landscape while offering a striking contrast in summer.
Spatially, the residence embraces an open plan with framed vistas, leveraging glazing as a permeable threshold to the surrounding environment. Outdoor terraces extend the living space, reinforcing the architectural intent of bringing the landscape within. A synthesis of permanence and lightness, the Sanella Summit Residence is a contemporary retreat, engaging with its site through tectonic grounding and visual openness.
