8 HAUS
8Haus is a mid-rise residential development in Toronto that expresses a bold contemporary identity through its form, proportions, and a carefully choreographed material strategy. The design employs a restrained yet dynamic palette of high-performance EIFS by STO panels, each finish deployed with intentionality to reinforce the building’s architectural composition and visual hierarchy.
Terracotta-coloured panels are used as strong vertical elements, giving the façade a sense of upward momentum and emphasizing the building’s slender proportions. These vertical accents frame balcony recesses and define the rhythm of the street-facing elevations, lending the structure a cohesive order. Grey marble-finished panels act as moments of punctuation, strategically placed to articulate key corners, transitions, and façade shifts. This marble texture not only draws the eye to important junctions in the massing but also provides a refined contrast to the warmth of the terracotta. At the uppermost levels, charcoal wood-textured panels define the terraced roofline, visually distinguishing the stepped-back volumes and accentuating the transition from the main body of the building to its lighter, more private rooftop forms.
The building’s massing integrates both linear and curvilinear gestures, with sweeping corners wrapped in marble panels softening the structure’s profile at the street, while inset and projecting balconies create depth and shadow play across the elevations. Expansive glazing enhances natural light penetration, frames urban views, and strengthens the connection between interior spaces and the surrounding city.
At grade, generous glazing and articulated entryways promote transparency and activate the pedestrian realm, complemented by landscaped edges that soften the transition from public to private space. The material composition, carefully calibrated in colour, texture, and placement, ensures 8Haus reads as both a distinctive architectural landmark and a finely tuned piece of the urban fabric.
