Glenlake Residence

Nestled in the heart of Toronto's High Park neighbourhood, this newly built duplex seamlessly blends Japanese design principles with contemporary urban living. Thoughtfully designed to harmonize with its surroundings, the residence features a striking interplay of textures and materials, creating a refined yet inviting aesthetic.

A fluted NewTech charcoal base grounds the structure, providing a sense of solidity and craftsmanship, while the light grey granite stucco cladding introduces a soft contrast, enhancing the home’s understated elegance. Expansive north-facing windows flood the interiors with natural daylight, a deliberate design choice that optimizes passive lighting and fosters a serene atmosphere throughout the space.

Standing at 2.5 stories in height, the duplex features mirrored floor plans—each side a reflected version of the other—offering a balanced and cohesive architectural composition. A walkout terrace extends from the upper level, where a long, lush green roof seamlessly integrates with the natural beauty of High Park. This living roof not only enhances sustainability but also provides a tranquil retreat, reinforcing the home’s deep connection to nature.

Inside, the design follows a philosophy of simplicity and restraint. Clean, uninterrupted lines define the space, with frameless doors that fully recess and integrate seamlessly into the walls. Baseboardless walls enhance the minimalist aesthetic, featuring only a refined dark black reveal at their base, subtly delineating the transition between surfaces. Warm engineered oak flooring flows continuously throughout the home, complemented by oak slanted wood stair risers that add a sculptural quality to the vertical circulation. Every detail has been meticulously considered to create an atmosphere of tranquility and timeless sophistication.

Drawing from traditional Japanese architecture, the design prioritizes simplicity, balance, and a strong connection to its environment. Minimalist detailing and clean lines emphasize openness, while carefully curated materials evoke warmth and longevity. This residence is a testament to thoughtful design, where form and function unite to create an inspired living experience in the heart of the city.
